Podcasting

SDSU is a national leader in teaching podcasting as a research method and medium. The DH Center’s experience and expertise in podcasting, coupled with our podcasting institute in partnership with National Humanities Center, podcasting is now a pillar of DH@SDSU.

Our podcasting institutes provide transformative opportunities for participants to reconceptualize their scholarly praxis through public-facing digital storytelling. The institute embodies emergent strategies in its design, scaffolded instruction, and supportive tech team. Participants are grouped in interdisciplinary and inter-institutional cohorts in which they must build trust quickly to produce a ~20-25 minute podcast episode by the end-of-week listening party. The fast pace pushes participants to embrace experimentation and risk-taking over perfection as they learn how to collaborate with intention and care. Many participants go on to develop their own podcasts, become professional podcast producers, or explore new avenues of professional life.

We bring this same approach back to SDSU through the design of our podcasting studios, our collaborations and partnerships, and our instruction/training sessions.

In 2024, the DH Center launched a podcast hosting service to amplify the scholarship of our faculty, staff, and students, we recently launched a hosting service to publish shows created in our studios.
